12.10am: A very unflattering shot of Dom, but Billy fans will want to see this one of Mr Boyd
12.10am: Two-times Oscar winner William Randall Cook
12.30am: Oscar winner (Sound Editing) Ethan Van der Ryn
12.35am: Asfaloth and Barrie Osborne in the upstairs area
12.35am: Barrie Osborne being interviewed by Susan (Moocholas)
12.45am: Alan Lee in the hot seat (being interviewed by TORn Digital
12.50am: Art directors, Dan and Chris Hennah
12.15am: William Randall Cook on the main stage
Upstairs we were keen to track down Barrie Osborne and Mark Ordesky to get their thoughts on the evening. Alas, Mark had already left, and Barrie was busy talking to some other people, but Susan started chatting to his wife (I didn't get her name - sorry!) who was charming, friendly and pointed out several other people for us.

This is where things got a bit messy. I'm hopeless with names and recognising a photo opportunity with an Oscar winner at the bar caused a dilemma - the usually reliable Susan wasn't sure who it was ("It's not Alex Funke, or Joe Letteri or Michael Hopkins. His name's not on this list") I got a great photo from the gentleman, but how to find out his name? The ultimate bluffers, we hit on a plan and I approached the afore-mentioned Oscar winner to ask him if he could spell his name into our tape recorder so we could get the spelling right! He spelt out "E-t-h-a-n V-a-n d-e-r R-y-n" very politely for us (thank goodness it hadn't been a 'Dave Smith' - we'd have been sussed, and how embarrassing would that have been). I left confused, Ethan's name wasn't in our TORn press pack naming the oscar nominees. Had the gentleman guessed our ruse and played a prank on us? Fortunately, a quick check on the oscar web site showed us he hadn't, but I'll bet he was confused by our strange request and the odd look when we got our answer!

One person I did recognise (from the DVD) was Art Director Grant Major (who always reminds me of a sort of balding Richard E Grant). I took a couple of shots of him and Susan but alas, wasn't paying enough attention and they are woefully out-of-focus and not shown here.

We also spoke to Alan Lee, as he exited a TORn Digital interview (Man, those guys were working hard all night!) He revealed that he wouldn't be appearing in front of the camera in the third movie and when I asked if there would be a second limited edition lithograph from him for the second movie, he thought it doubtful and had heard nothing. He told us he had been busy doing P.R. work and admitted to us "I miss my pencil. I'm just too busy all the time.".

I recognised Dan Hennah, and wanted to ask him to say 'Hi' to his wife, Chris, who I'd met at the premiere and had been wonderful. It turned out she was stood right next to him - doh! They said they were enjoying themselves and thought the people were more fun at this party than those they'd partied with at a 'name' Hollywood party the year before, which was good to hear.

It was 1.20am and we were all done in, ready to leave, so it was a case of back downstairs to join our friends waiting to leave, collecting our goody baggins on the way out. I heard stories of much dancing on the floor (from my mum and Susan's husband John) so thankfully our absence hadn't meant they'd missed out on the chance to party and have a good time. Old friends shouted 'See you next year', as we left, tired but happy.

Indeed we will!

It remains only to thank everyone who helped get these photo's and web report up and running. People assume that because this site is "all about ME!" ;-) that I'm the only one involved in these web log reports, when the truth is they couldn't happen without a lot of help from other people. There are too many people to name individually, but special thanks to Asfaloth and MrCere of TORn for helping us get the access we needed for this report and pictures to be possible, and all the other TORn staff and volunteers who helped us out on the night.

Thanks most of all though to Susan (Moocholas) who acted as interviewer, PA, chief organiser, morale booster and gear carrier throughout the night. I know Susan gave up her party night to help me out (as she had done last year, working as a TORn volunteer) and I'm pleased on her account to hear that next year she is not going to work but instead will enjoy the party with her husband John (although, for purely selfish reasons, I'm sorry that I'll miss her bubbly presence that made the night so much fun for me personally). You rock, Susan and you are an inspiration to us all (man, I am going to get such an abusive email when she reads this! ;-))

The next major web log report will appear day-by-day from July 13th as I head out to San Diego to cover Comic-Con, which looks to have even more 'Lord of the Rings' participation than last year! Check back then!
